**Vellore, December 8, 2024** – An eight-year-old boy, P. Gopi, drowned in the Palar river near the new bus terminus in Vellore town on Sunday. Gopi was bathing with two friends when the incident occurred. According to police, the river had a strong current due to recent rains. When Gopi failed to resurface, his friends raised the alarm. Firefighters and Vellore North police retrieved his body. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. Gopi’s parents, S. Perumal and P. Latha, were reportedly occupied with household chores when the children went to the river.
