Sun Dec 08 20:10:51 UTC 2024: ## AAP Accuses BJP of Settling Rohingya Refugees in Delhi
**New Delhi, December 9, 2024** – Delhi’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP-led central government of settling Rohingya refugees in the Bakkarwala area of Delhi. The AAP cited a 2022 social media post by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announcing the relocation of Rohingya refugees to EWS flats in the area, providing them with amenities and police protection.
AAP Chief Minister Atishi and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia claimed this proves the BJP’s involvement in the resettlement. They accused the BJP of making false allegations against former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal while ignoring their own actions.
The BJP, Delhi’s main opposition party, rejected the accusations as “baseless rhetoric.” They countered that the issue is not the settlement of legal refugees, but the presence of a large number of illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants in Delhi and other states. Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva challenged Kejriwal to a debate on the matter, claiming the illegal immigrants are disrupting social harmony and contributing to crime. The BJP had previously accused AAP of facilitating the illegal settlement of Rohingya refugees to gain votes in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The accusations and counter-accusations highlight the escalating political tension in the lead-up to the February elections.
