Mon Dec 09 04:23:30 UTC 2024: **Delhi Schools Receive Bomb Threats, Students Sent Home**
NEW DELHI, INDIA – Over 40 schools in Delhi, including prominent institutions like DPS RK Puram and GD Goenka School (West Delhi), received bomb threats via email on December 9th, 2024. The email, sent around 11:38 PM, demanded $30,000 and claimed bombs had been planted on school campuses. Following the threats, schools immediately evacuated students and contacted police and fire services. Police are currently investigating the source of the email, tracing the IP address and other identifying information.
This is not the first instance of bomb threats targeting Delhi schools. Similar threats were made to Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini on November 20th and a CRPF school in Tamil Nadu on October 21st. A blast near a CRPF school in Rohini on October 20th, claimed by a Khalistani group, highlights the concerning trend of escalating threats.
Authorities are treating the matter seriously, given the recent surge in hoax bomb threats against various sectors, including airlines, hotels, and railway stations. According to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murli Dhar Mohol, the number of hoax bomb threats against airlines rose dramatically from 122 in 2023 to 994 in 2024 – a 714.7% increase. While the current school threats are still under investigation, police are working to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
