Mon Dec 09 05:28:33 UTC 2024: ## Bomb Threats Force Evacuation of 40 Delhi Schools

**New Delhi, India** – Forty Delhi schools received email bomb threats on Monday morning, prompting the evacuation of students as a precaution. The threats, demanding $30,000 USD to avoid explosions, targeted prominent institutions including Mother Mary School, British School, Salwan Public School, and Cambridge School, among others.

Police received the first alerts around 6:15 AM from GD Goenka West Delhi and 7:06 AM from DPS RK Puram. Bomb disposal squads, search teams, and fire brigades were deployed to the schools, but no explosives were found.

The email, reportedly sent around 11:38 PM on Sunday, claimed multiple small bombs had been planted and threatened detonation unless the ransom was paid. This is not the first instance of such threats; over 150 schools received similar emails in May 2024.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi slammed the central government, stating the BJP’s failure to ensure security has led to a rise in crime, including extortion, murder, and now bomb threats to schools. Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal echoed these sentiments on X, calling for Union Home Minister Amit Shah to address the deteriorating law and order situation.

The Delhi High Court had previously, on November 19th, directed the Delhi government and police to develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for handling bomb threats, giving them an eight-week deadline. This latest incident follows a blast near a CRPF school in October, which caused damage but no injuries. Investigations are ongoing.
