Sun Dec 08 01:10:00 UTC 2024: ## IMD Issues Rain and Cold Wave Alert for Several Indian States
**New Delhi, India** – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain and cold wave alert for several states across India, starting today. The alert predicts a significant temperature drop and the arrival of a cold wave, particularly affecting northern India.
Sunday is expected to bring rainfall to Delhi-NCR, West Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Jharkhand, leading to a further increase in the cold. Other states are also anticipated to experience a surge in cold temperatures over the next couple of days. Snowfall is predicted in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
Delhi experienced its coldest morning of the season on Saturday, with a minimum temperature of 7.1°C (3°C below average). Light fog and partly cloudy skies with a possibility of light rain are forecast for Delhi on Sunday, with maximum and minimum temperatures predicted at 24°C and 8°C respectively.
Jharkhand is expected to experience light rain on Sunday and Monday, with a forecast of a 3-4°C drop in minimum temperatures and a 1-2°C drop in maximum temperatures over the next 48 hours. Sikar in Rajasthan recorded a minimum temperature of 5°C on Friday night, while Mount Abu also saw a minimum of 5°C. Srinagar’s temperature reached -4.1°C on Saturday and is expected to fall further.
The IMD attributes the changing weather to a western disturbance affecting the western Himalayan region and the adjoining plains of northwest India from December 8th. This disturbance is also expected to cause light to moderate rainfall in parts of Jharkhand. The IMD’s forecast, valid until December 10th, also includes the possibility of light rain or snowfall in parts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.
