**NEW DELHI** – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Delhi for the murder of his mother, police announced Saturday. Sawan, the younger son of the victim, Sulochna, initially reported the crime as a robbery, claiming her earrings were stolen during a break-in. However, a subsequent investigation revealed no signs of forced entry and other valuables remained untouched, leading police to suspect foul play.
Further questioning revealed that Sawan had killed his mother after she forbade him from marrying his girlfriend and threatened to disinherit him. The dispute arose when Sawan expressed his desire to marry a long-term partner, a proposal his mother vehemently rejected. Angered by her refusal and the threat of disinheritance, Sawan allegedly planned and executed the murder, subsequently removing his mother’s earrings in a staged robbery attempt. Despite contributing his earnings from his goods transport driving job to his mother, Sawan’s actions led to his arrest. His older brother, Kapil, is reportedly preparing for his own upcoming wedding. The investigation continues.
