Sun Dec 08 02:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Aussie Teen Shatters 56-Year-Old National 200m Record

**Brisbane, Australia** – Sixteen-year-old sprint sensation Gout Gout has etched his name into Australian athletics history, shattering a 56-year-old national record in the 200m. Gout clocked an astonishing 20.04 seconds at the All-Schools Championships in Brisbane on Saturday, eclipsing Peter Norman’s iconic 20.06 seconds set at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.

This remarkable achievement comes just one day after Gout ran the fourth fastest 100m time ever recorded by a runner under 18. His performance in the 200m final saw him pull away from the pack in the final stretch, leaving his competitors trailing.

Gout’s time is not only a new Australian record but also makes him the fastest 16-year-old in history over 200m and places him second on the all-time under-18 list. He now also holds the Oceania 200m record according to World Athletics.

“These are adult times and me, just a kid – I’m running them,” Gout said, expressing disbelief at his accomplishment. “I didn’t expect it to be that fast, but I guess I ran Australia’s fastest ever time in the 200.”

The young sprinter, who will turn 17 in December, has been compared to sprinting legend Usain Bolt, after his impressive rise in the sport. His performance has generated significant buzz, further fueled by a viral video leading up to the World Athletics U20 Championships.

Gout’s victory replaces Norman’s long-standing record, a mark made even more significant by its connection to the 1968 Olympic Games and the Black Power salute performed by Tommie Smith and John Carlos. Norman, in a powerful display of solidarity, wore an Olympic Project for Human Rights badge during the medal ceremony.
