Sun Dec 08 15:20:00 UTC 2024: ## Delhi Braces for Cold Wave as Temperatures Plummet After Weekend Rain
**NEW DELHI –** A weekend rain shower has ushered in a sharp drop in temperatures across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a significant cold wave from December 10th to 14th. The IMD warns of particularly harsh conditions in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and western Uttar Pradesh, with dense fog accompanying the frigid temperatures.
The IMD’s prediction, which accurately forecast Sunday’s rain and subsequent temperature drop, indicates that minimum temperatures in Delhi could plummet to around 3° Celsius after December 10th, from the current 7° Celsius. This chilling forecast is attributed to snowfall in the Himalayas and a western disturbance impacting weather patterns across North India.
Dense fog is expected to blanket large swathes of North India on December 9th and 10th, potentially disrupting daily life. Hisar in Haryana has already recorded the lowest temperature in the plains, at 4.7° Celsius. The IMD further predicts that Delhi’s minimum temperature could continue to fall gradually to 2-3° Celsius by December 11th, with the cold spell persisting into the second week of December (12th-18th). A dense fog warning has also been issued, particularly for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, from the night of December 7th to the morning of December 10th.
