Fri Dec 06 22:57:53 UTC 2024: ## Cash Found in MP’s Parliament Seat During Security Check

**New Delhi** – A stash of currency notes was discovered in the seat of Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi during a routine security check at the Parliament House, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced on Friday. The incident occurred during a daily anti-sabotage sweep conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The CISF, which took over Parliament security in May 2024 following a significant security breach in December 2023, conducts thorough three-hour checks of both Houses every morning while Parliament is in session. These checks involve teams using sniffer dogs to detect explosives and searching for suspicious objects or signs of tampering. The heightened security measures were implemented after individuals disrupted proceedings in December 2023, releasing smoke canisters and shouting slogans. While the 2023 incident had no connection to terrorism, it prompted a review and subsequent handover of security responsibilities from a joint team involving the CRPF, Delhi Police, and Parliament’s Security Services to the CISF. The CRPF and Delhi Police have been withdrawn from the complex, with the Parliament Security Services reassigned to administrative duties. The CISF now deploys 3,317 personnel to secure the Parliament complex. The nature and amount of the cash found in Mr. Singhvi’s seat are yet to be disclosed. Further investigation into the matter is expected.
