**VISAKHAPATNAM, December 6, 2024** – A three-day national-level athletics meet for employees of state transport organizations across India commenced today in Visakhapatnam. The All India Public Bus Transport Athletic Meet, organized by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), was inaugurated by APSRTC Chairman Konakalla Narayana at the Police Parade Ground, Kailasagiri.
The event, the first of its kind in nearly four decades, features participation from 19 state transport corporations. APSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao, highlighted the significant participation of 127 women employees. He commended the dedication of RTC drivers and conductors and emphasized the meet’s role in providing employees a break from their daily routines.
ASRTU Executive Director T. Surya Kiran attributed the meet’s revival to the suggestion of Mr. Tirumala Rao. Mr. Narayana emphasized the meet’s role in fostering camaraderie among employees from different states. The inaugural ceremony also included the awarding of medals to the winners of the men’s 800m race. The meet continues for two more days.
