Sat Dec 07 00:47:57 UTC 2024: ## Cash Bundle Found in Rajya Sabha Sparks Political Row, Parliament Disrupted

**New Delhi:** A bundle of currency notes found near the seat of a Congress MP in the Rajya Sabha triggered a major uproar in India’s Parliament on Friday, leading to the adjournment of both houses.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the discovery of the cash bundle – containing Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes – near the seat allocated to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Dhankhar stated that a security check after Thursday’s adjournment revealed the bundle and that an investigation had been ordered. The authenticity of the notes is yet to be determined.

The announcement ignited a heated debate between ruling BJP and opposition Congress members. BJP MPs demanded an explanation from the Congress party, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the Chairman’s decision to reveal the MP’s identity before the investigation concluded. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal defended Dhankhar’s actions. BJP President J.P. Nadda accused the Congress of compromising the Rajya Sabha’s integrity.

Singhvi denied any involvement, attributing the incident to a security lapse and suggesting improved security measures, such as individual locked compartments for each seat. He detailed his movements on Thursday, stating he left the Parliament after the adjournment.

The Lok Sabha also witnessed disruptions due to accusations by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey alleging links between the Congress party and American investor George Soros. These accusations led to further protests and adjournments.

Both houses of Parliament were adjourned until Monday amid the continuing political turmoil. The incident highlights growing tensions between the ruling and opposition parties.
