Sat Dec 07 15:11:21 UTC 2024: ## Former Supreme Court Judge Advocates for Review of Reservation Policy
**KOCHI, Dec 7, 2024** – Former Supreme Court Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman delivered the 10th Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer Memorial Lecture in Kochi on Saturday, advocating for a periodic review of India’s reservation policy. While affirming the initial correctness of the policy’s intent, Justice Nariman suggested that its effectiveness needs reassessment. He proposed a phased reduction of reservation percentages, ultimately aiming for its elimination.
The lecture, organized by the Sarada Krishna Satgamaya Foundation for Law and Justice, focused on the theme of economic criteria and sub-classification within Scheduled Castes, questioning whether reservations have overshadowed merit. The event included addresses by Justice K. Balakrishnan Nair, former Kerala High Court judge, and Justice Nitin Jamdar, Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, as well as merit awards for top-performing law students.
