**New Delhi:** A controversy has erupted in the Rajya Sabha after ₹50,000 was found in the seat allocated to Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh defended the situation, stating that carrying ₹50,000 to Parliament is not unusual or suspicious. He claimed that several MPs, including BJP members, have carried similar amounts. Ramesh questioned the timing of the discovery, noting that searches were conducted after 6 pm. He suggested that a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation is necessary and characterized the situation as a government conspiracy. He further claimed to have spoken to 5-6 MPs, including BJP members, the previous day, who showed him ₹50,000 each.
Singhvi himself denied any knowledge of the money, stating he typically carries only ₹500 to Parliament. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Chairman Dhankhar for revealing Singhvi’s name before the investigation was complete. The investigation is ongoing.
