Fri Dec 06 19:40:00 UTC 2024: ## Instagram Suffers Widespread Outage in India

**NEW DELHI** – Instagram experienced a significant outage in India on Wednesday, leaving hundreds of users unable to access the platform. The outage, which began Tuesday evening and peaked around noon on Wednesday, was tracked by Downdetector, a website that monitors online service disruptions.

According to Downdetector, over 6,500 Indian users reported problems accessing Instagram at the height of the issue. The most common complaints included inability to log in, difficulties posting content, and other unspecified bugs. Frustrated users took to other social media platforms, such as X (formerly Twitter), to voice their concerns and confirm the widespread nature of the problem.

This is not the first time Instagram, owned by Meta, has experienced outages in India. Similar widespread disruptions occurred in October and June of this year. The timing of the outage comes amidst Meta’s recent efforts to enhance privacy and parental controls on the platform in response to growing concerns about the negative impacts of social media on young users. Meta, along with other tech giants like ByteDance (TikTok) and Google (YouTube), faces numerous lawsuits alleging addictive design and misleading claims about the safety of their platforms.
