**Fujitsu Spin-off BLUABLE Tackles Climate Change with Innovative Seaweed Cultivation**
**Kawasaki, Japan – December 3, 2024** – Fujitsu today announced the successful spin-off of BLUABLE Ltd., a blue carbon services company, from its Fujitsu Innovation Circuit (FIC) entrepreneurship program. BLUABLE, launched in October 2024 and funded by Spinout Capital Fund No.1, is pioneering a novel approach to combating climate change by leveraging the ocean’s carbon sequestration capabilities.
BLUABLE focuses on cultivating seaweed beds, crucial ecosystems for storing “blue carbon,” which is carbon captured and stored in ocean and coastal environments. Rising sea temperatures are damaging these beds, reducing their effectiveness. To address this, BLUABLE has developed resource-efficient kits that facilitate seaweed growth without the need for heavy equipment. The company is currently conducting field trials at 16 locations in Japan and plans to utilize IoT and AI to refine blue carbon measurement techniques. These measurements will be used to apply for J Blue Credits, a carbon credit system.
Fujitsu, committed to sustainability and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is supporting BLUABLE by providing technology, including its ocean digital twin, and fostering the company’s growth through FIC. FIC, with over 2,500 participants globally, aims to cultivate entrepreneurial skills and generate new businesses addressing societal challenges. BLUABLE’s success marks a significant milestone for FIC, demonstrating the program’s ability to translate innovative ideas into impactful solutions for a sustainable future.
