**Florence, Italy** – Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove is in a medically induced coma after collapsing during a Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday. The 22-year-old player fell to the ground in the 16th minute, seemingly while tying his shoelaces, prompting the immediate suspension and eventual abandonment of the game.
Bove received swift medical attention on the pitch before being transported to Careggi University Hospital in Florence. Initial tests have ruled out acute damage to his central nervous system and cardio-respiratory system, according to a Fiorentina statement. He is currently under pharmacological sedation in intensive care and will undergo further evaluation in the next 24 hours. Sky Italia reported that Bove regained consciousness in the ambulance and was breathing independently.
The incident deeply affected both teams, with players visibly distraught. Inter Milan chairman Giuseppe Marotta described the decision to abandon the match as spontaneous and a united response from players and officials. An outpouring of support for Bove has flooded social media from fellow Serie A clubs and fans, who have gathered at the hospital. Bove’s parents, girlfriend, coach, teammates, and club directors are at his side.
This is the second such incident in Serie A this year, following a similar event involving Roma defender Evan Ndicka in April. The match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan ended in a scoreless draw at the time of the collapse.
