Sat Dec 07 16:10:00 UTC 2024: ## Alonso Slams “Worst Car Ever” in Abu Dhabi as Aston Martin Season Ends on a Low

**Abu Dhabi, UAE** – Formula 1 veteran Fernando Alonso, the most experienced driver in the sport’s history, ended the 2024 season on a sour note, blasting his Aston Martin AMR24 as the “worst car ever” following a disappointing FP1 session in Abu Dhabi. The two-time world champion finished 11th, two places behind reserve driver Felipe Drugovich, who replaced Lance Stroll for the session.

Alonso’s frustration boiled over on team radio, where he also criticized the team’s traffic management during his practice run. The comments echo his infamous “GP2 engine” outburst during his time with McLaren-Honda, highlighting a season of struggle for both the driver and the Aston Martin team.

While the team initially showed promise, Aston Martin has slipped back into the midfield, with Alonso scoring points in only one of his last five races. Despite this, Alonso insists maintaining motivation wasn’t difficult, attributing his drive to the constant pressure of the racing calendar. He also revealed that, in his 25-year career, he’s only driven the “best car” once – during his time with the championship-winning Toyota team in the World Endurance Championship (WEC).

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix marks the final race of the 2024 season, bringing to a close a year marked by setbacks for the veteran driver, despite his enduring skill and experience. Alonso continues to race despite a lingering injury sustained in Brazil.
