Fri Dec 06 19:22:10 UTC 2024: ## Kauvery Hospital Doctors Offer Monsoon Health Advice in The Hindu Webinar

**Chennai, December 7, 2024** – With the recent flooding in Tamil Nadu highlighting monsoon health risks, Kauvery Hospital doctors addressed concerns during a wellness webinar hosted by The Hindu. Experts emphasized the importance of preventative measures to combat the rise in common colds, influenza, and waterborne diseases like malaria and dengue during the rainy season.

Doctors stressed the significance of hand hygiene, timely vaccination (including annual flu shots, pneumococcal, and typhoid vaccines), and avoiding raw fruits and vegetables. They debunked myths surrounding food restrictions, stating that curd and juices are beneficial for hydration.

While mild fevers (under 102°F) lasting up to two days are usually manageable with paracetamol, persistent high fevers or coughs warrant medical attention. Parents were advised to keep children with coughs and colds home from school to prevent further spread. The overuse of home remedies like steam inhalation and nebulizers was discouraged, with doctors recommending inhalers for stuffy noses and seeking professional medical advice for more serious respiratory issues. Importantly, doctors warned against self-medicating with steroids, emphasizing that fever is a natural bodily defense mechanism. The webinar, a joint initiative of Kauvery Hospital and The Hindu, provided crucial health guidance for navigating monsoon illnesses.
