**New Delhi, [Date of Publication]** – The Indian government has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVs), creating thousands of jobs and expanding educational opportunities across the country. The announcement came Friday from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The project, costing an estimated ₹8,231.9 crore (approximately $1 billion USD) over eight years, will significantly increase access to quality education. The 85 new KVs, along with the expansion of an existing one, will accommodate an additional 82,560 students. This expansion is expected to generate approximately 5,388 direct, permanent jobs, plus further employment opportunities in construction and related fields. The 28 new NVs will also contribute to increased educational access.
Currently, 1,256 KVs are operational, educating approximately 13.56 lakh students. The new KVs will adhere to the standards set by the KV Sangathan, ensuring a consistent quality of education across all locations. The government cites the consistently high performance of KV students in CBSE board exams as justification for the expansion. The initiative also aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, with almost all KVs designated as PM Shri schools. The KVs are known for their high-quality teaching, innovative pedagogy, and modern infrastructure, making them highly sought-after educational institutions. The government’s decision is driven by the rising demand for admissions, particularly for Class I.
