Fri Dec 06 16:20:10 UTC 2024: ## Kerala’s Bridal Spark Offers Free Wedding Dresses to Needy Brides
**Kannur, Kerala –** A unique initiative in Taliparamba, Kerala, is providing much-needed relief to families struggling with wedding expenses. Bridal Spark, the state’s first free wedding dress rental service, launched two months ago by the NSS unit of Sunrise College of Advanced Studies, offers gently used wedding dresses and jewellery at no cost.
Inspired by the high cost of bridal attire and the fact that many dresses are worn only once, the project collects donations of used wedding apparel. These are then cleaned, repaired, and made available to brides-to-be. The response has been overwhelming, with numerous donations accumulating attire and jewelry worth over ₹5 lakh.
“People spend lakhs on dresses worn only once,” explained NSS programme officer Muhammad Jabir M.K. “Bridal Spark aims to ease that financial burden.” The simple process involves brides providing a contact number for tracking purposes.
The initiative, spearheaded by Jabir and NSS students coordinator Muhammed Shezin, promotes sustainability and community support. The success of Bridal Spark highlights the potential for small-scale projects to create significant positive change.
