Hyderabad, India – Rashmika Mandanna, the popular South Indian actress, recently opened up about her journey from a schoolgirl whose stage performance was met with disapproval to a pan-India star. In a candid interview, she revealed that after a school play, she was told, “Don’t ever act again.” Despite this discouraging start, she unexpectedly entered the film industry and has since become a household name.
Mandanna described her role as Srivalli in the blockbuster “Pushpa” as one of the most meaningful in her career, getting emotional on the film’s last day of shooting after a four-year journey with the character. She expressed her eagerness to take on new projects, including a biopic, even dreaming of portraying a role similar to Devasena from “Baahubali.”
The actress, who admits to feeling uncomfortable when people don’t interact with her warmly, also shared her experiences, including an emotional incident on the set of “Geeta Govindam.” She clarified that she didn’t enter the industry for wealth, revealing her first paycheck was only ₹2.5 lakhs. While not focused on money, she believes in valuing her work.
Mandanna’s personal life was also touched upon, revealing that her first love ended with an engagement. However, this hasn’t altered her belief in the power and beauty of love. Outside of acting, she enjoys painting, playing badminton, and watching Japanese films. Hyderabad has become her home, and although she initially struggled with Telugu, she persevered and learned the language. She downplayed her star status, preferring to focus on her work. Her upcoming films include “Rainbow,” “The Girlfriend,” “Kubera,” “Sikandar,” “Chaava,” and “Thama.” She concluded the interview with a confident and optimistic outlook for 2024.
