**Gaya, Bihar:** A crucial meeting regarding the proposed Gaya Metro Rail project was held at the Samाहरणालय Sabha Kक्ष in Gaya, chaired by Bihar’s Cooperation Minister, Dr. Prem Kumar. The meeting, attended by representatives from various sectors, including Bodh Gaya and Belaganj MLAs, Gaya Municipal Corporation officials, and local NGOs, reviewed the progress of the project.
The District Magistrate of Gaya, Dr. Tyagrajan SM, revealed that a detailed survey and physical study conducted by Rites Company under the Bihar government’s Urban Development and Housing Department, spanning three months, has been completed. The proposed 36-kilometer metro rail line will be constructed in two phases, encompassing a total of 28 stations. Phase one will focus on key locations such as the Mahabodhi Temple, Gaya Junction, Gandhi Maidan, and the airport. Phase two will include the Vishnupad Temple and Lakhanpur.
The project, designed to accommodate Gaya’s projected 2056 population and regional development, designates 20 hectares in Jindapur and 12 hectares in Lakhanpur for metro maintenance depots.
The meeting saw public representatives suggest route extensions and the inclusion of significant religious sites. Belaganj MLA Manorama Devi urged the inclusion of Belaganj’s Kali Temple and Koteshwar Nath Dham, while former Deputy Mayor Akhouri Omkar Nath proposed a route along the Falgu River for improved accessibility.
The Gaya Metro project aims to modernize the city’s transportation and boost economic growth by connecting religious and tourist sites.
