Sat Dec 07 03:51:39 UTC 2024: ## Eight Dead, Nineteen Injured in Agra-Lucknow Expressway Crash
**Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh:** A horrific bus accident on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Kannauj has claimed the lives of eight people and left nineteen others critically injured. The accident, which occurred Friday afternoon, was attributed to the reckless driving of the bus driver, Rishi Yadav, who was reportedly eating while operating the vehicle.
According to eyewitness accounts, Yadav, despite repeated warnings from passengers, continued to drive one-handed while eating, causing the bus to veer off course and collide with a water tanker servicing trees on the median. The bus, traveling from Lucknow to Delhi, was carrying approximately 50 passengers. The impact of the collision resulted in the bus overturning.
Among the deceased are Dharmender Vashney and his wife Ankur Bobby (both residents of Lucknow), Girish Yadav (Lucknow), Rahul (Mallawan, Hardoi), Puran (Mallawan, Hardoi), Rishi Yadav (Kannauj), Akkajot Singh, and Prem Singh (Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan). The injured were rushed to Saifai Medical College for treatment.
The high-speed and negligent driving of the bus driver is being cited as the primary cause of the accident. The incident occurred just a week after another fatal accident on the same expressway claimed five lives, including three doctors.
Cabinet Minister Swatantra Dev Singh happened upon the scene and visited the injured. District Magistrate Shubhrant Kumar Shukla and Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Anand also arrived at the accident site to oversee rescue and relief operations. Police are investigating the incident.
