NEW DELHI, Dec 6 (ANI) – India observed the 69th Mahaparinirvan Diwas on December 6, commemorating the death anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Leaders across the political spectrum paid homage to the social reformer and jurist.
President Droupadi Murmu led the tributes, offering floral tributes in Bhubaneswar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects at Parliament House Lawns, highlighting Ambedkar’s tireless fight for equality and human dignity. He reiterated a commitment to fulfilling Ambedkar’s vision. Other prominent figures including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former President Ram Nath Kovind, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also paid their tributes at Parliament House. Rahul Gandhi emphasized his commitment to protecting the Constitution.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also paid tribute, stating that Ambedkar’s life exemplifies struggle, equality, and social justice. Similarly, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputies also offered tributes at a state function in Patna.
Ambedkar, born April 14, 1891, was a renowned jurist, economist, politician, and social reformer who dedicated his life to fighting caste-based discrimination and advocating for women’s and workers’ rights. He received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1990. He passed away on December 6, 1956.
