Fri Dec 06 03:58:25 UTC 2024: ## Farmers Plan Second Delhi March Despite Supreme Court Warning
**New Delhi, [Date]** – Farmers are preparing for a second attempt to march to the Parliament building in Delhi on [Date], beginning at 1 pm from the Shambhu border protest site. This follows a similar, albeit unsuccessful, march on Monday where farmers from Uttar Pradesh were stopped in Noida, causing significant traffic disruption.
The march is organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), a non-political farmers’ group, who are demanding a legal guarantee for Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for crops. Their list of demands also includes farm debt waivers, pensions for farmers and laborers, no electricity tariff hikes, the withdrawal of police cases, and justice for victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
Farmers have been camped at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13th, after previous attempts to reach Delhi were blocked by security forces. However, their planned march faces significant hurdles. Prohibitory orders are in place, banning gatherings of four or more people, effectively prohibiting any procession. Heavy security measures, including the deployment of central paramilitary forces and multi-layer barricading, are in place on the Haryana side of the border.
The Supreme Court recently addressed the issue, stating that while peaceful protest is a right, farmers should not obstruct highways or inconvenience the public. The court highlighted the importance of the Khanauri border as a vital transport link for Punjab.
This renewed push for a march comes after the death of a Punjab farmer, Shubhkaran Singh, during a clash at the Khanauri border on February 21st, when protesters attempted to breach security. Security forces reportedly used tear gas. The upcoming march promises further tension and potential disruption.
