Fri Dec 06 03:30:00 UTC 2024: ## LSU Women’s Basketball to Face Stanford in Nationally Televised Showdown
**BATON ROUGE, LA** – The No. 5 LSU Tigers women’s basketball team (9-0) will take on the Stanford Cardinal (7-1) in a highly anticipated matchup on Thursday at 8 p.m. CT. The game, part of the SEC/ACC Challenge, will be nationally televised on ESPN2.
This marks the third meeting between the two programs and Stanford’s first-ever visit to the PMAC. The last encounter saw LSU triumph in the Elite Eight en route to the Final Four, a game featuring a crucial charge drawn by current LSU assistant coach Seimone Augustus.
LSU, boasting a dominant 9-0 record, aims for a 10-0 start for the second time in three seasons. The Tigers are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally in several key categories, including scoring, free throws made, field goal percentage defense, and rebounding. Star player Aneesah Morrow leads the nation in double-doubles (8) and rebounding (13.0 rpg), recently earning USBWA Starting Five of the Week and SEC Co-Player of the Week honors.
Stanford, however, presents a significant challenge. They lead the nation in three-point shooting percentage (44%), averaging 9.6 threes per game. Five Cardinal players shoot over 42% from beyond the arc. While Nunu Agara leads Stanford in scoring (17.5 ppg), Coach Kim Mulkey highlighted the need to contain Stanford’s dribble-drive offense and subsequent three-point attempts.
This game marks a new era for Stanford, as they are under the leadership of new head coach Kate Paye, who takes the reins after the retirement of legendary Tara VanDerveer.
The first 400 students will receive LSU Women’s Basketball Showtime hats, and 6,000 rally towels will be distributed. LSU will also host a toy drive before the game. Fans can catch the action on ESPN2 with Eric Frede and Christy Thomaskutty on the call, or on the LSU Sports Radio Network with Patrick Wright and Shaeeta Williams.
