**Kozhikode, Kerala – December 6, 2024** – The Malabar Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (MRCMPU), under the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma), is set to open a modern milk powder production factory in Moorkkanadu, Malappuram on December 24th. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the ₹131.03 crore facility, boasting a daily production capacity of 10 metric tonnes of milk powder.
The announcement came following the release of a five-year project report highlighting the Malabar union’s significant growth. Milma chairman K.S. Mani stated that the new factory will utilize advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCDA) systems for optimized production. Spray drying technology will be employed, making it the state’s first SCDA-enabled modern milk powder plant. The project received financial support from the State government and the Swiss Development Co-operation.
The report revealed a 48% growth in Malabar Milma’s turnover over the past five years, with ₹5,091.7 crore paid to dairy farmers. Milk sales saw a 27.89% increase. Mr. Mani emphasized the union’s commitment to expanding into value-added products and exploring export opportunities. He highlighted the Prime Minister’s praise for the union’s work in providing Ayurvedic animal medicines, as well as the receipt of Energy Conservation awards.
Further, the MRCMPU has implemented various welfare programs for dairy farmers, including distributing ₹192 lakh in charity aid and providing monthly support to dialysis patients. Mr. Mani expressed Milma’s ambition to become a global brand.
