Fri Dec 06 05:51:54 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Declares Holiday, Extends Rail Services for Ambedkar’s Death Anniversary

**Mumbai, India –** Maharashtra will observe a local holiday this Friday, December 6th, to commemorate the death anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, also known as Mahaparinirvan Diwas. The state is preparing for a large influx of visitors to Mumbai’s Chaityabhoomi in Shivaji Park, where Ambedkar’s cremation took place.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid tribute to Ambedkar on Thursday, while a national commemoration is planned at Prerna Sthal in the Parliament House Complex, featuring tributes from dignitaries including the Vice President and Prime Minister.

To accommodate the expected surge in passengers, Central Railway has announced 14 additional special trains from various cities across Maharashtra, arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on December 6th. Twelve additional suburban trains will also run on December 5th and 6th. Enhanced security measures are in place, with over 300 additional Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel deployed at key stations. ‘May I Help You’ booths will assist passengers.

Traffic restrictions will be in effect in central Mumbai from December 5th to 7th to manage crowds at Chaityabhoomi. Veer Savarkar Road will be closed between Siddhivinayak Temple Junction and Hinduja Hospital, with diversions in place for local residents.
