Fri Dec 06 15:55:37 UTC 2024: ## Bumrah Bags 50th Test Wicket on Birthday, Enters Elite Club

**Adelaide, Australia:** Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah celebrated his 31st birthday in style, achieving a remarkable feat during the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Adelaide. Bumrah took his 50th Test wicket of the year, becoming only the third Indian pacer after Kapil Dev and Zaheer Khan to reach this milestone in a single calendar year.

Bumrah achieved the landmark on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test, dismissing Australian opener Usman Khawaja with a well-directed bouncer. This achievement places him in the company of cricketing legends, although Kapil Dev remains the record holder with 75 wickets in 1983. Zaheer Khan’s best year saw him claim 51 wickets in 2002.

Bumrah’s success extends beyond this single achievement. He currently leads all bowlers across formats in 2024, with 65 wickets in 19 matches. His contribution was significant in India’s recent T20 World Cup triumph, where he claimed 15 wickets in eight matches, placing him third on the tournament’s leading wicket-takers list.

His best performance in the current series came in the Perth Test, where he took 8 wickets for 72 runs, a record for a visiting fast bowler in a Test match at that venue. This latest milestone cements Bumrah’s position as one of the leading bowlers in the world.
