**Puri, Odisha:** President Droupadi Murmu joined thousands of spectators in Puri, Odisha, for a spectacular Navy Day celebration, marking the first time the event was held on the eastern coast. The President, Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, invoked the blessings of Varuna, the God of the Ocean, for the nation’s progress and expressed confidence in the Navy’s continued role in ensuring India’s maritime security, vital for achieving the “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) vision by 2047.

The Navy showcased its impressive capabilities through an action-packed demonstration involving 15 warships, 37 aircraft, and a submarine. The display included aerial maneuvers by fighter jets like the MIG-29K and Hawk, daring combat free falls by MARCOS commandos, submarine operations, and warship rocket firing. The event also featured a traditional Horn Pipe Dance by women cadets, highlighting the Navy’s commitment to empowering women – a point President Murmu specifically praised, citing the global circumnavigation by two women officers, Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa, as a prime example.

President Murmu lauded the Navy’s “Atmanirbhar” (self-reliant) push, noting the construction of 63 ships within India, and recognized its pivotal role in the 1971 war victory. She commended the Navy for being the first service to induct women Agniveers. The celebration, commemorating the 1971 victory, concluded with a Beating Retreat ceremony, a Continuity Drill, and a dazzling drone and laser show. The event underscored both the Navy’s modern strength and India’s rich maritime history, spanning over 5,000 years.
