BJP MLA Kolambkar takes oath as pro-tem speaker; special Assembly session from December 7

**Mumbai, December 6, 2024** – Senior BJP MLA Kalidas Kolambkar was sworn in as the pro-tem speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Friday. The ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai, was administered by Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan. Kolambkar, a nine-time MLA representing Wadala, is the senior-most member of the newly-elected house.

In his temporary role, Kolambkar will oversee the swearing-in of the 288 newly-elected MLAs and preside over the assembly’s proceedings during a three-day special session beginning December 7th. The election of a permanent speaker is scheduled for December 9th, followed by a trust vote for the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti government, sworn in on December 5th.

Chief Minister Fadnavis, Deputy Chairperson of the Legislative Council Neelam Gorhe, and Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik attended the brief oath-taking ceremony. The appointment comes a day ahead of the special session, setting the stage for the formation of the new government.
