**Chennai, India – December 6, 2024** – India has achieved a significant milestone in its high-speed transportation ambitions with the completion of a 410-meter Hyperloop test track at the IIT Madras Discovery Campus in Thaiyur. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the completion on X (formerly Twitter), praising the collaborative effort between Indian Railways, IIT-Madras’ Avishkar Hyperloop team, and the incubated startup TuTr Hyperloop.
The test track marks the first operational Hyperloop system in India. Initial tests have already been conducted at speeds of 100 km/h. Future testing on the longer track aims to reach speeds of approximately 600 km/h. The project aims to advance and commercialize Hyperloop technology for high-speed, affordable, reliable, and sustainable transportation across India.
The Ministry of Railways is a key partner in this initiative, viewing Hyperloop technology as a potential addition or complement to India’s existing Metro Rail system, significantly altering the country’s transit landscape. The successful completion of the test track signifies a major step toward realizing this futuristic transportation vision.
