**Chennai, December 6, 2024** – The AIADMK has vowed to appeal to the Supreme Court to ensure a thorough investigation into the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which claimed 67 lives. Party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami criticized the Tamil Nadu government’s appeal against the Madras High Court’s order for a CBI probe, alleging the DMK government is attempting to delay justice and shield itself. Palaniswami questioned the state government’s reluctance to allow a CBI investigation, suggesting a conflict of interest given the police department falls under the Chief Minister’s purview.
The PMK echoed these concerns, with party president Anbumani Ramadoss stating that the DMK’s opposition to the CBI probe suggests wrongdoing. He accused DMK officials of involvement in the illicit liquor trade in Kallakurichi and implied the party is seeking to prevent the truth from emerging through a CBI investigation. Both parties are demanding a CBI investigation to ensure justice for the victims.
