Fri Dec 06 00:51:43 UTC 2024: ## Abhishek Sharma Equals Fastest T20 Century Record for India
**Rajkot, India –** Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has equalled the record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian, smashing 106 runs off just 29 balls in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Thursday. His innings, which included 11 sixes and 8 fours, propelled his team to victory against Meghalaya, chasing down a 143-run target in a mere 9.3 overs. Sharma’s incredible strike rate of 365.52 eclipsed even his recent impressive performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and for India’s national team.
Sharma’s feat comes just days after Urvil Patel set the previous record for the fastest century by an Indian, also achieving the milestone in 28 balls in the same tournament. While Patel’s 28-ball century initially held the record, Sharma’s explosive innings tied the record.
This remarkable performance follows a stellar year for Sharma. After impressive IPL showings, he made his debut for India against Zimbabwe, showcasing his explosive batting ability. In 12 T20I matches for India, he has scored 256 runs at a strike rate of 171.81 and boasts a total of 1376 runs in 63 IPL matches with a strike rate of 155.13.
The fastest T20 century overall remains held by Estonian player, Saheel Chowhan, who achieved the feat in 27 balls earlier this year.
