Fri Dec 06 14:05:50 UTC 2024: ## Telangana Congress Government Marks One Year in Power: A Mixed Bag of Successes and Setbacks

**Hyderabad, December 6, 2024** – One year after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s swearing-in ceremony on December 7, 2023, the Telangana Congress government’s performance presents a mixed bag of successes and challenges. Reddy, who promised “people-centric governance,” has focused on fulfilling his party’s six election guarantees and addressing long-standing issues.

Significant achievements include the successful implementation of free bus travel for women, with over 115 crore journeys recorded. Progress has also been made on the free electricity and subsidized cooking gas schemes. A major accomplishment was the filling of 55,413 government vacancies, easing unemployment concerns. The government also waived farm loans up to ₹2 lakh for 25.35 lakh farmers and provided a bonus for paddy farmers, boosting agricultural output. Furthermore, the launch of the Young India Skill University has seen positive engagement from industrialists. Judicial probes into alleged irregularities in major projects also demonstrate a commitment to accountability.

However, the government has faced setbacks. Opposition parties successfully criticized the Musi River rejuvenation project, and the proposed Pharma village project was scrapped following protests. A controversial demolition drive, while initially lauded, raised concerns about displacement and led to High Court intervention. Despite repaying ₹64,516 crore in previous loans, the government borrowed an additional ₹52,118 crore to fund its ambitious programs.

Internally, Reddy has maintained unity within the Congress party, receiving praise from the central leadership. However, a planned cabinet expansion remains pending. Overall, the government’s performance shows a commitment to welfare and development, though challenges remain in balancing ambitious projects with financial constraints and public concerns.
