COIMBATORE, INDIA – December 6, 2024 – A Coimbatore-based multidisciplinary design studio, whoisthem.co, has unveiled a modern reimagining of the classic Indian daily wall calendar. Titled “Lost & Found,” the redesigned calendar retains the core elements of Gregorian, Tamil, and Islamic calendars but presents them in a desk-friendly, sustainable format.
The team, comprising Aakash Selvan, Jamila Habib, Sakthi Mathav, and Dev Abishek, has updated the popular “Paati Vaithiyam” (Grandmother’s Wisdom) section into a playful “Paati Says” feature, incorporating jokes and life hacks. The calendar also incorporates a unique flipbook element featuring a recurring character, “Cycle Anna,” selling various items throughout the year.
Sustainability was a key driver in the design process, with the team opting for recycled paper for the approximately 400-page calendar. The designers meticulously refined every detail, from paper texture and weight to the stand’s inclination, creating multiple prototypes to achieve the perfect balance of form and function. The calendar, priced at ₹599, includes 396 days – encompassing the 365 days of the year plus special pages for holidays like Pongal and Valentine’s Day.
“Redesigning such a quintessential item was a huge challenge,” said Sakthi Mathav. “Design should evolve, and we aimed to stay true to what people love while bringing in our own modern approach.” The team believes that the traditional calendar, while valuable, had become outdated and needed a contemporary refresh.
