**Mangaluru, December 6, 2024** – Over 479 Shuddha Ganga drinking water purification units, installed across drought-affected areas of Karnataka since 2009, are providing clean drinking water to 5.91 lakh people daily, according to Hemavathi Veerendra Heggade, president of the Jnana Vikasa Programme under the Shri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Programme (SKDRDP).
Speaking to supervisors of these units in Dharmasthala on Wednesday, Ms. Heggade emphasized the units’ crucial role in improving the health of women and children in these regions. She urged supervisors to ensure all those in need have access to the clean water and to conduct annual feedback sessions with users. The initiative, she highlighted, directly addresses a critical health concern in drought-prone communities.
