**Hyderabad, December 5, 2024** – A stampede at the Sandhya Theatre in Chikkadpally, Hyderabad, during the premiere of the Allu Arjun film “Pushpa-2” resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and serious injuries to her nine-year-old son. The incident occurred late Wednesday night following the 9:30 p.m. show.
The large crowd gathered due to the unexpected arrival of Allu Arjun and music director Devi Sri Prasad at the theatre. Police stated that the lack of prior notice prevented them from organizing adequate crowd control measures. The surge of people attempting to catch a glimpse of the celebrities as they left the theatre triggered the stampede.
Chikkadpally ACP L. Ramesh Kumar reported that the theatre was overcrowded, leading to suffocation among the exiting audience. He further stated that the lack of immediate CPR contributed to the woman’s death from asphyxiation. Authorities plan to file a case against the theatre management for exceeding capacity limits.
The scene outside the theatre after the incident was described as chaotic, with confetti and discarded footwear scattered on the road. A significant police presence has since been deployed at theatres in the area to prevent similar incidents. The injured child is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
