**COIMBATORE, INDIA (December 5, 2024)** – Post-graduate and Ph.D. students from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) in Coimbatore held a rally on Thursday to mark World Soil Day. The event, organized jointly by the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry and the Coimbatore Chapter of the Indian Society of Soil Science, focused on the theme “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage.”

The rally aimed to raise awareness about the importance of soil conservation and sustainable management practices. TNAU Vice-Chancellor V. Geethalakshmi flagged off the rally, emphasizing the need to protect this valuable resource for future generations. She highlighted the university’s dissemination of soil science technologies and products through research and outreach.

A lecture, the 13th Dr. B. Ramamoorthy Memorial Lecture, was also delivered by M.V. Sriramachandrasekharan, former Professor and Head of the Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry at Annamalai University. His lecture, titled “Digital Era – Next Generation Agriculture,” addressed challenges in food security, water use efficiency, soil degradation, and climate change, focusing on the role of technologies like IoT, AI, robotics, and big data analytics in modern farming. The State Bank of India sponsored the event.
