Wed Dec 04 18:57:13 UTC 2024: ## Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Lauds Modi, Underscores Strong India-Kuwait Ties

**New Delhi, December 4, 2024** – Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya concluded a visit to India today, praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and highlighting the strong and historic ties between the two nations. During a meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Al-Yahya described Modi as “one of the wisest persons worldwide” and emphasized India’s crucial role as a partner for Kuwait.

Al-Yahya’s visit, which included a courtesy call on PM Modi, aimed to further strengthen the multifaceted relationship between India and Kuwait. The Foreign Minister expressed confidence in the ability of a joint committee to resolve outstanding issues and create a roadmap for accelerated cooperation.

PM Modi, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), reciprocated the positive sentiment, thanking the Kuwaiti leadership for their care for the large Indian diaspora in Kuwait – estimated at one million, the largest expatriate group in the country. He reiterated India’s commitment to advancing the deep-rooted historical ties between the two nations.

The longstanding relationship between India and Kuwait dates back centuries, predating Kuwait’s independence. Historical trade in goods like spices, textiles, and pearls cemented a strong economic foundation that continues today. The robust Indian business community in Kuwait, encompassing prominent brands like Lulu Hypermarket and Centre Point, plays a significant role in bolstering economic ties. Furthermore, over 200 Indian associations actively promote cultural exchange and community welfare, strengthening people-to-people connections. Al-Yahya’s visit underscores the ongoing commitment from both nations to cultivate this vital partnership.
