Wed Dec 04 20:11:06 UTC 2024: ## Indian Navy to Showcase Power at Puri Beach for Navy Day 2024

**Puri, Odisha –** The Indian Navy will celebrate Navy Day on December 4th, 2024, with a spectacular display of its strength at the Blue Flag beach near Puri, Odisha. President Droupadi Murmu, the supreme commander of India’s armed forces, will be the chief guest at the event, which will also be attended by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi and the Governor of Odisha, among other dignitaries.

This is the second time the Navy is holding such a large-scale event, the first being held in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest. This year’s event, codenamed “Op Demo 24,” will feature approximately 90,000 tonnes of warships showcasing their weaponry and sensors. The demonstration will highlight the Navy’s capabilities to neutralize threats within a 300-kilometer radius from its bases across surface, underwater, and air domains. Around 3,500 naval personnel will participate in Op Demo 24.

The choice of Odisha is significant, given the state’s historical maritime connections and its strategic location on the Bay of Bengal. The Navy Day commemorates the 1971 victory over Pakistan, including the sinking of the Pakistani warship *Khaibar* and the significant damage inflicted on Karachi harbor during Operation Trident.

The Indian Navy boasts a formidable fleet, including two aircraft carriers (INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya), one ballistic missile submarine, two nuclear-powered attack submarines, and a wide array of frigates, destroyers, corvettes, and patrol vessels. It also possesses a substantial arsenal of indigenous and foreign missiles, torpedoes, and other weaponry. The Navy is ranked among the top ten navies globally. Its personnel strength totals around 67,252 active personnel and 75,000 reserves, supported by over 300 aircraft, 150 ships and submarines, and extensive logistical and maintenance infrastructure across the Indian coast.
