**Bhubaneswar, Odisha, December 5, 2024** – The Indian Navy showcased its formidable strength and capabilities in a spectacular operational demonstration at Puri beach on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024. The event, attended by President Droupadi Murmu, featured a vast array of naval assets, including 15 ships, over 37 aircraft, submarines, and marine commandos, alongside personnel and equipment from the Indian Army. The demonstration, the second of its scale held outside a major naval base, involved over 3,850 personnel and equipment weighing a collective 90,000 tonnes.
The display included a breathtaking aerial show with MiG-29K and Hawk fighter jets performing impressive maneuvers, including a “bomb burst” by the Hawk AJT aircraft. MARCOS commandos executed exhilarating combat free fall and slithering exercises from helicopters, while submarines demonstrated their stealth capabilities and warships showcased advanced tactical maneuvers and rocket firing. A combined amphibious assault, involving the Navy and Army, further highlighted the forces’ coordinated capabilities. The event culminated in a traditional Hornpipe dance and ceremonial beating of the retreat.
President Murmu lauded the Navy’s operational readiness and its crucial role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests and security, emphasizing the Navy’s contribution to humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and combating drug trafficking. She expressed confidence in the Navy’s continued contribution to India’s rise as a developed nation by 2047.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi highlighted the Navy’s increased operational tempo, high combat readiness, and strengthened international collaborations. He also mentioned the ongoing circumnavigation of the globe by INS Tarini, with two women officers at the helm. The event underscored the significant growth of the Indian defence sector, fueled by the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The Odisha Governor Raghubar Dash and Chief Minister Mohan Majhi were also present at the demonstration.
