**Hassan, Karnataka –** A promising young IPS officer, Harsh Bardhan, tragically lost his life in a road accident on Sunday evening. The 26-year-old, a 2023-batch officer of the Karnataka cadre, was en route to his first posting in Holenarasipur when a tire burst on the police vehicle he was travelling in. The vehicle subsequently crashed into a house and a tree in Hassan taluk.
Bardhan, who hailed from Madhya Pradesh and had cleared the civil services exam on his first attempt, succumbed to his injuries in hospital. He had recently completed his training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru. His father, Akhilesh Singh, an SDM in Madhya Pradesh, travelled to Karnataka to claim his son’s remains. The last rites will be performed in Saharsa, Bihar, the officer’s home district.
The news of Bardhan’s death has prompted widespread grief and condolences. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow on X, stating that the officer’s death is a loss for the nation. The incident highlights the risks faced by young officers undertaking their first assignments. Investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
