Wed Dec 04 03:30:15 UTC 2024: ## South Korea Faces Potential Extinction Due to Plummeting Birth Rate

**Hyderabad, December 3:** Experts warn that South Korea is on track to become the first country in the world to disappear due to a rapidly declining population. The nation’s historically low birth rate is the primary cause, with projections indicating a potential 66% population decrease by the end of the century. This would reduce South Korea’s current population of 52 million to a mere 14 million.

The current crisis is a paradoxical consequence of the government’s successful family planning policies implemented in the 1960s. These policies drastically reduced the fertility rate from an average of six children per woman to two by 1983, and it has continued to fall since then.

Despite government incentives such as tax breaks, subsidized childcare, and relaxed military service requirements for parents, the birth rate remains stubbornly low. Experts warn that unless drastic measures are taken, South Korea faces an existential threat, with the possibility of complete population collapse in the near future.
