SUWON, South Korea – Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains showcased the state’s ambitious education reforms at the UNESCO Futures of Education-2024 forum in South Korea on December 3rd. Bains emphasized teacher empowerment and global learning as cornerstones of Punjab’s educational transformation.
The minister highlighted a significant infrastructure development program, including the construction of new classrooms, improved school security measures (boundary walls and security guards), provision of school bus services, and the installation of Wi-Fi in schools. These initiatives, he said, aim to create a secure and technologically advanced learning environment.
Bains further detailed the state’s commitment to teacher training, citing programs sending educators to institutions in Singapore and Finland to bring international pedagogical best practices to Punjab’s schools. He also described innovative school models, including Schools of Eminence (focused on professional training), Schools of Applied Learning (emphasizing vocational skills), and Schools of Happiness (a child-psychology-based approach).
Bains concluded by asserting that education is key to addressing global challenges like climate change, terrorism, and social inequality. He reiterated the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring quality education for every child.
