**Mumbai, December 4, 2024** – Preparations are underway for the swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra’s new Mahayuti government, a coalition of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, scheduled for December 5th at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. The event is expected to draw a large crowd, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several Union Ministers, and numerous Chief Ministers from NDA states.
While BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is widely expected to be appointed Chief Minister, the final decision will be made at a meeting of the state BJP legislature party on December 4th. Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Vijay Rupani have been appointed as central observers for this meeting.
The ceremony is anticipated to be a grand affair, with arrangements for over 40,000 BJP supporters and 2,000 VVIPs. It will be live telecast across the state. The event will also showcase Maharashtra’s cultural diversity through participation from religious leaders, artists, and writers.
Eknath Shinde, the outgoing Chief Minister, has reportedly expressed disappointment at not being reappointed, but BJP leaders have downplayed any rift.
A special session of the Maharashtra Legislature will be held from December 7th to 9th for the swearing-in of newly elected members, followed by the winter session in Nagpur from December 16th to 23rd. The BJP secured a commanding majority in the November 20th Assembly elections, winning 132 seats, and forming the coalition with 230 seats in total.
