**Washington D.C.** – OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed optimism Sunday that President-elect Donald Trump’s administration will prioritize artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure development, ensuring US global leadership in the field. In an interview with Fox News, Altman highlighted the significant infrastructure needs of AI, including massive energy consumption, advanced data centers, and access to cutting-edge semiconductors. He believes Trump is well-suited to deliver the necessary support.
“We need to build that here,” Altman stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a global competitive edge against rivals like China. “We very much believe that the United States and our allies need to lead this.”
Beyond infrastructure, Altman also stressed the need for Congressional legislation to establish safety guidelines for AI. While acknowledging the complexity of determining the appropriate regulations, he emphasized the importance of societal involvement in shaping AI’s future use. “It should not be OpenAI gets to decide on its own how ChatGPT or how the technology in general is used or not used,” he said.
Altman’s comments come amidst OpenAI’s recent surge in prominence within the AI sector. The company’s rapid growth has also drawn legal challenges, with co-founder Elon Musk reportedly seeking to block OpenAI’s conversion to a for-profit entity.
