Wed Dec 04 04:46:55 UTC 2024: ## Indian Navy to Showcase Power at Puri Beach for Navy Day 2024

**Puri, Odisha –** The Indian Navy will celebrate Navy Day on December 4th, 2024, with a grand display of its strength at the Blue Flag beach near Puri, Odisha. President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, will be the chief guest at the event, which will also be attended by Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, the Governor of Odisha, and other dignitaries.

This is the second time the Navy is hosting such a large-scale event, the first being held in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the chief guest. This year’s demonstration, codenamed “Op Demo 24,” will involve approximately 90,000 tonnes of warships showcasing their weaponry and sensors.

The display will demonstrate the Navy’s capability to neutralize threats within a 300-kilometer radius from its bases across surface, underwater, and air domains. Around 3,500 naval personnel will participate in Op Demo 24. The choice of Odisha is significant, given the state’s historical maritime connections and its strategic location on the Bay of Bengal.

Navy Day commemorates the 1971 victory over Pakistan, specifically Operation Trident, which resulted in the sinking of the Pakistani warship *Khaibar* and significant damage to the Karachi harbor. The Indian Navy’s capabilities include nuclear deterrence, sea-lift operations, force projection, and naval warfare. It operates across various bases and strategically important locations throughout India.

The Indian Navy boasts a strength of 67,252 active personnel and 75,000 reserves, supported by 300 aircraft, 150 ships and submarines, and a wide array of weaponry, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and torpedoes. It is currently ranked among the top ten navies globally. The Navy’s arsenal includes indigenous and foreign-made missiles, advanced weaponry systems, and two nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines.
