Tue Dec 03 23:20:22 UTC 2024: ## Maharashtra Caretaker CM Shinde Recovers, Swearing-in Ceremony to Proceed
**Mumbai, December 3, 2024** – Maharashtra’s caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who had been unwell for the past few days, underwent a medical check-up at a Thane hospital on Tuesday. Mr. Shinde, who reported experiencing throat issues and a fever, reassured the public that he is in good health and that the check-up was precautionary. He tested negative for dengue.
The check-up comes just days before the swearing-in ceremony for the new Maharashtra government, scheduled for December 5th at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Following the check-up, Mr. Shinde returned to his residence and held a video conference to oversee arrangements for Mahaparinirvana Day on December 6th.
Speculation regarding Mr. Shinde’s health arose last week after a visit to his native village. While his aides attributed the visit to his illness, it fueled rumours of potential dissatisfaction with the new government formation.
Meanwhile, the BJP is set to elect its Legislature party leader on Wednesday, with Devendra Fadnavis widely expected to become the next Chief Minister. The distribution of ministerial portfolios remains a point of contention within the Mahayuti alliance, particularly the coveted Home portfolio, which the Shiv Sena is seeking.
In another development, NCP president Ajit Pawar is expected to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. This meeting follows reports of a requested meeting, though the NCP clarified that no formal appointment had been sought. The final allocation of portfolios is expected to be decided in upcoming meetings.
