Wed Dec 04 04:49:37 UTC 2024: ## Earthquake Tremors Felt in Southern Chhattisgarh
**Raipur/Sukma, Dec 4:** A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale shook parts of southern Chhattisgarh this morning. Tremors were felt in Bijapur, Sukma, and Dantewada districts at approximately 7:27 AM. The epicenter was located in the Mulugu district of neighboring Telangana.
Residents reported feeling the earth shake, causing them to rush out of their homes. While no immediate damage has been reported, the event triggered memories of a previous earthquake in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. That quake, measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale, was also felt in Sukma and Jagdalpur, along with Chhindgarh and Malkangiri. No casualties or significant damage were reported at that time either.
Experts attribute earthquakes to the movement of tectonic plates within the Earth’s crust. These plates are constantly shifting, and significant movement can result in tremors felt on the surface.
